Songkran in London: Celebrate Thai New Year at Thai Square

Every April, Thailand celebrates Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year. It is the country's biggest festival, famous for the water fights that fill the streets, but at its heart it is about renewal, family and food. You do not need to fly to Bangkok to feel some of that spirit.

What is Songkran?

Songkran runs from 13 to 15 April and marks the start of the Thai new year. Water is poured as a sign of cleansing and respect, elders are honoured, and families gather to share meals. Temples fill with offerings, and the mood across the country is warm and generous.

How to celebrate Songkran with food

Food is central to the festival, and the dishes lean towards comfort and sharing. A rich massaman curry, a fresh papaya salad and plenty of rice make a fitting table. At Thai Square our kitchens cook these the traditional way, so a Songkran meal here tastes the way it should.

Bring the family together

Songkran is a family festival above all, which makes it a lovely excuse to gather everyone round one table. Pick your nearest of our eleven restaurants, look over the menu together, and book a table to welcome the Thai new year in good company.
